World Famous New River Trains

The world famous new river trains will RUN OCT. 14, 15 & 21 & 22 In West Virginia in St. Albans, WV to receive passengers from the Charleston area. The non-profit railroad historical society has operated these trips almost every year since 1966. They are the only main line excursions trains still operating in the east as far as we are aware.

Passengers on these four trips will traverse all of the 65 mile long new river gorge, the Grand Canyon of the east where the only indication of modern civilization is the track of the old c&o railway (now csx) an occasional cabin and the white water rafters.

The trains will leave Huntington’s old c&o depot and current business unit offices on 7th Avenue and 9th street at 8:00am, making a stop in St Albans near Charleston to pick up passengers, and Montgomery before going on to Hinton, WV where arrival is scheduled for approximately 1:00 pm.

In Hinton, passengers can enjoy a street fair with arts, crafts, food, and entertainment during the approx. Three-hour layover. Following the layover the special train departs for the return trip home where arrival is approx. 8:00 Pm.

The round trip fares are $119.00 Adult coach, $89.00 Child coach ages 3-12, and premium service is $199.00 for adult or children, and the dome area of the dome lounge car is $209.00 Per person. The premium service includes seating in a lounge cars, or dome-lounge if available. This service also includes a continental breakfast served at your seat, and a sit down dinner served in a diner or lounge dining area.

There will be a snack/souvenir car in the coach section where food and souvenirs will be available.
